Looking for a Tip for Ripping Naming Conventions

Hi all,

I understand how Winamp Preferences | CD Ripping | Output File Settings | Output Filenames works. I'm looking for a way to automate different settings when ripping one-artist CDs from compilation CDs.

What I'd like to achieve while ripping without having to edit my settings is:

Ripping a one-artist CD:

Output File Settings

-Output Filenames-
Specify the destination folder for ripped tracks:
..\My Documents\My Music\Library\My Cds
Specify the naming convention for ripped tracks:
<Artist>\<Album>\## <Title>

Ripping a compilation CD:

Output File Settings

-Output Filenames-
Specify the destination folder for ripped tracks:
..\My Documents\My Music\Library\My Cds\Various Artists
Specify the naming convention for ripped tracks:
<Album>\## <Artist> - <Title>

Is there a trick or plugin that will do this for me?

Hmm, no, not really.

The nearest you'll get is if you make sure the Album Artist field for compilation CDs is set to "Various Artists" before ripping.

Then just use:

..\My Documents\My Music\Library\My Cds

<Artist>\<Album>\## <Trackartist> - <Title>

Sure, you would still need to add/remove the "<Trackartist> - " part accordingly....

Hi DJ Egg,

that actually works for me , I'm not really concerned with the Trackartist being in the file name. That doesn't bother me at all if I don't have to change the settings all the time. I didn't realize that <Artist> is actually the album artist tag . I guess if you can read it's an advantage .

One more question will fix me up for a while . Winamp is grabbing the media info from Gracenotes when it reads a CD. Is there anyway to edit this information before ripping the CD and having that info, which might be incorrect or not fit to my purposes, written into the ID3 fields?

Edit: *gaaah* I'm a bit slow. I just discovered that you have to right-click one of the tracks before ripping to edit the info and not in the info-field above the tracks itself . Okay, I'm happy now .

this is one reason why i use EAC to rip. it handles single/comp cds much better.
