winmx

is there a way to configure winmx to use winamp with the play option without having winamp as the default player for the computer? i tried setting the program exe in the setup for winmx, it will launch the winamp program but not send it the song to play. im thinking that i need to give it a command line option but have no clue as to what it is and cannot find any documention for command line options for winamp or winmx. any help would be most appreciated.

Separately associating with Winamp and using WMP Icons:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=53432

That thread is about how to manually associate files with WinAMP. You could use a similar method like so:
Add a command called Play in WinAMP, and make the command
"C:\Program Files\Winamp\Winamp.exe" "%1"

No idea about WinMX (never used it), but as for Winamp....

Winamp 2.x NSDN Command Line options:
http://www.winamp.com/nsdn/winamp2x/dev/sdk/api.jhtml

btw, what's the reason for not wanting winamp as your default mp3 player?
What other great player are you using?

Wouldn't it be easier to just use Winamp Playlist -> Add button?

Hey Neo (NRen2k5 to anyone new round here)

I'll add that link to this section of TSGH -> Useful Links

How to assign different icons to associated file types:

Cant make winamp default cause system needing this on does not belong to me. I found winamp trying to play things in winmx and since have decided to put winamp on my own system and check it out since it is so small compared to other players that if it can do the same I would much rather have it. Anyway I haven't tried these suggestions but I was sure I just needed command line options so I'm sure it will work thanks and I'll post if I cant get it to work.

There probably is an option in WinMX settings to determine the default player, but like I said, I don't know what or where it is because I don't use WinMX. There's plenty of people here who visit the General Discussions forum who use WinMX, so maybe you should ask there . . . though I'm surprized one of them hasn't replied in here.

Goto Settings, then File Launch Settings. Put .mp3 as the file extension, action Open, command C:\Program Files\Winamp\Winamp.exe "%1", put a name in the top Dropdown menu (Such as Open In Winamp), then press save. It should work. If not, then either you need to put the Winamp path in quotes " "" " , or, well, then I'm stumped.
